If you are hard-working, driven by challenges, and looking to have fun in a truly unique high-involvement “work” environment consider a position with Switchyard!
Switchyard is a small (yet quickly growing) independent craft-brewery based in beautiful downtown Bloomington.
Working at Switchyard is not like working at most other places. How come? It’s hard to put a finger on any one thing that makes it the way it is, but when it comes right down to it, it really is all part of our culture!
Our coworkers tend to want to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We are inquisitive and want to grow and become better versions of ourselves. We have a strong internal drive. You can feel the pulse of our energy when you enter our taproom. The people who make up our team are the foundation upon which the ultimate success of our organization rests.
Above and beyond all else, working at Switchyard means making a serious commitment to learning about great beer, great service, and most of all, how what we do can be a catalyst for positive change, not only within our community but with ourselves too! We combine ongoing training and education to make you an expert in craft beer and the brewing process and offer opportunities to learn and grow as a leader. We practice open-book management, providing coworkers access to our company financials and a clear view of our decision-making processes. We believe that the collective is stronger than the individual and that informed coworkers will make responsible decisions, encouraging a community of trust and mutual responsibility.
We look forward to getting to know you during the interview process!

Benefits
At Switchyard, we encourage ownership, critical thinking, and an ongoing desire to improve. We work by our Guiding Principles and that is what drives us to do what we do. We believe that giving back to our community and a solid work-life balance makes us healthier and more productive in our daily lives.
100% NOT DEPENDENT ON TIPS (AKA, TIP-FREE CULTURE)
In August of 2021, we made the decision to convert to a 100% tip-free culture in the taproom. What does that look like in real life? Well, it’s pretty simple. Customers do not have to tip if they don’t want to. We never expect a tip, but if a customer feels compelled to express their appreciation in the form of a tip, our non-management co-workers split those tips based on the number of work hours every two weeks.
Switchyard believes businesses should be responsible for their workers’ wages, not the whim of the customer. We chose to do this so that our taproom staff are able to afford to work weekdays, opening shifts, and slow days, because let’s face it – not every day is a busy Friday night, but we still need great folks to provide an awesome experience to our customers. It also means that our coworkers are being fairly compensated for “side work” such as bussing tables, cleaning up, setting up or tearing down for events, etc that aren’t “tipped” work. Our coworkers deserve a living wage they can count on. Besides, tipping is unfair, sexist, rooted in discrimination, incentivizes poor scheduling practices, and just isn’t reliable. Read more about why we stopped being dependent on tips in our taproom here.
